Travel without stopping could soon become reality thanks to the European project CarMen (Non-stop Biometric Border Control for Secure and Efficient Crossing), funded by the Horizon Europe programme. By using multimodal biometrics, a combination of various biometric traits such as facial recognition, voice, and movement, CarMen is developing a system that enables the automatic identification of travelers in motion, whether they are driving or walking through an airport. All of this happens contactless, without documents, and without stopping.
The CarMen project has been featured in the Croatian portal Profitiraj.hr, which presents the project’s vision of document-free and seamless biometric border crossing. The article explains how CarMen is developing an innovative system that could revolutionize the way we cross borders, by leveraging multimodal biometrics and artificial intelligence while strictly adhering to privacy protection and GDPR standards.
This media appearance reflects the growing recognition of the project and underlines the importance of the issues CarMen is addressing: security, efficiency, and data protection in the context of modern travel and migration.
